Yirgacheffe and Colombian Supremo top the range of speciality coffees from Bean Bags

Many months of careful planning, tasting, roasting and tweaking went into the development of the Bean Bags Coffee range of true speciality coffees. We worked closely with our UK-based roaster to source beans that deserve the term 'speciality' and ensure the roast is just right so none of the flavour is wasted.

The Bean Bags Coffee range of coffees already includes blends, single origin, Fairtrade and Organic products sourced from around the world. These coffees are then carefully roasted here in the UK to our own specification.

The new range of coffees is designed for those customers who want something truly special - hence the term speciality. These beans have been carefully selected for their origin and taste profile and hand roasted to bring out the best of the flavours.

The first two products in the new range are an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and a Colombian Supremo.

Yirgacheffe sits like an island in the middle of the Sidamo region of Southern Ethiopia. Arabica coffee originates in Ethiopia. According to popular legend an Ethiopian goat herd discovered coffee when he noticed how energised his flock became after eating the cherries of the coffee plant.

Yirgacheffe was recognised as a distinct coffee-producing area in the 1960s, noted for the exceptional citrus and floral flavours found in its washed coffees.

Grown at an altitude of 1770-2200m (5790-7210ft), in the cup our single origin Yirgacheffe bean has bright acidity, medium body and marked Jasmine and floral flavours.

Colombia is the world's third largest coffee producer, with a crop that is almost exclusively Arabica, making it the second largest producer of premium Arabicas, since second placed Vietnam owes its position in the world ranking to its Robusta production.

Our Colombian Supremo is a fully washed Arabica representing the pinnacle of Colombian quality. In the cup it produces superbly weighted body with light chocolatey back notes aligned to a delicious citrus flavour with lemony background acidity.

It is grown at an altitude between 1100-1900m (3608-6233) above sea level in volcanic soil.

If you would like to try these new coffees, please ask us for a sample or to arrange a tasting.
